Interview Entrepreneur Kim

From Student to Entrepreneur: An Interview with Kim

How long have you been interested in doing your own business?
”I’ve been thinking about starting a business since I was a girl because that’s what I learned from my parents. They’ve always had their own companies—my father was an architect and my mother an interior designer in his company. Later, she started a study abroad agency in Korea. Growing up in such an environment naturally made me interested in creating solutions to improve our daily lives.”

It sounds like innovation is a big part of your mindset. Can you tell us more about that?
”Absolutely. I love envisioning the next steps that could improve our daily lives. For instance, I often think about what might come after the devices we use today, like mobile phones. I have a passion for understanding what people need and figuring out how we can make life more convenient. It’s this curiosity and drive that motivate me to keep pushing forward.”

What challenges have you faced with this mindset, especially in a new country?
”One of the biggest challenges has been dealing with people’s stereotypes because I’m not from Sweden. Adapting to Swedish culture has been a learning process. When I first arrived, I would greet people with ’How are you?’—a habit I picked up in Australia. It took some time to adjust to Swedish social norms. However, I believe challenges are universal. Starting a business is tough everywhere because it’s always hard to build trust and relationships when you’re new.”

Can you tell us about what you’re currently working on?
”I’m working on a FinTech startup called RIKSDAL, which aligns perfectly with my background and interests. I’ve been interested in finance since I started trading in 2016. I studied graphic design and web development at Jönköping University, so this venture brings together my education and my passion for finance.”

How has Drivhuset supported your journey?
”Drivhuset has been incredibly supportive. They’ve provided resources, guidance, and networking opportunities. Drivhuset, in particular, has been with me every step of the way, helping me refine my business idea and approach things more efficiently. They offer courses and meetups that are invaluable for building a strong team and accessing necessary resources.”

What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?
”My main advice is to take action—don’t just think about your ideas at home. Go out, meet people, and talk about your ideas. You’ll find people who share your thoughts and are willing to help. Also, don’t hesitate to ask for help. Many people are afraid to do that, but it’s essential. Lastly, focus on being collaborative rather than overly ambitious. Building a great team is crucial in business. It’s all about people.”

Kim’s journey from a student with a dream to an entrepreneur in the FinTech sector showcases how we can support you in transforming ideas into successful ventures. As Kim continues to build her business in Sweden, she remains focused on creating a strong community and fostering innovation.
